Originally, the title Czar (derived from Caesar) meant Emperor in the European medieval sense of the term, that is, a ruler who claims the same rank as a Roman emperor, with the approval of another emperor or a supreme ecclesiastical official (the Pope or the Ecumenical Patriarch).
Occasionally, the word could be used to designate other, non-Christian, supreme rulers. In Russia and Bulgaria the imperial connotations of the term were blurred with time and, by the 19th century, it had come to be viewed as an equivalent of King.
We now have 32 Czars appointed by Our Dear Leader. They are different and above the Presidential Cabinet.
The Cabinet members must be approved by Congress, and are subject to testifying at Congress's request.
Our Dear Leaders Czar's are simply appointed by him, oversee the cabinet, answer only to the President, and are not obliged to testify in front of congress.
For every Czar in place, there already existed a cabinet post and or a government agency or three. Now the Czar's oversee all existing agencies in any particular field. They dictate changes in policy, and never answer to anyone but Our Dear Leader.
These non elected officials now dictate Our Dear Leaders wishes without scrutiny or accountability. It is nothing more then yet another power grab by an ambitious agenda driven Administration.
What are they in charge of?
Technology Czar, Drug Czar, Copyright Czar, Energy Czar, Car Czar, Terrorism/WMD Czar, Health Care Czar, Education Czar, Economic Czar, Mortgage Czar, Urban Affairs/Housing Czar, Guantanomo closure Czar, Great lakes Czar, Stimulus accountability Czar, Cyberspace Czar, Border Czar, Intelligence Czar, Regulatory Czar, Pay Czar, Iran Czar, Tarp Czar, Middle-East peace Czar, Science Czar, Green jobs Czar, Afghanistan Czar, Sudan Czar, Mideast policy Czar, Information Czar, AIDS Czar, Faith-based Czar:, Climate Czar:,California Waterway Czar.
I don't see a Fix the Damn Economy Czar in there anywhere. But I have been thinking all along that fixing the economy isn't on the agenda. Merely pretending to fix it is.
If fixing the economy was a priority, they would not be pushing Bills that will force business's to close and more jobs to be lost, while raising taxes at the same time.
Even Russia in it's heyday only had one Czar.
