FEMA Camps - what is the deal?

I love a good conspiracy theory, especially when there might actually be something to it. I have read about and been told about the FEMA concentration camps for years. The story as told over the Internet is FEMA has taken over abandoned Military bases and old Amtrack facilities and converted them into prison camps for the dissident masses, for when the NWO begins. Well, I think the NWO is here, so what is the deal with these camps? I have looked into a couple of these alleged camps that are in my area. I must say I was horrified to find that absolutely nothing unusual was going on.

So let's see what the insidious facts are. First we must note that the Department of Homeland Security is now the parent of both FEMA and ICE. That should be spooky enough it itself. Delving deeper we find that in 2006 KBR (Kellogg, Brown, and Root)was awarded a $385 Million dollar (maximum over five years) government contract to build and maintain new Immigration Detention centers. KBR is a subsidiary of Halliburton Co. KBR held a similar contract since 2000, the main difference is under the new contract KBR will assist in case of a National emergency.

Now here is where fact and myth merge together. We all know the Federal Government has never been too interested in actually detaining Illegal Immigrants. And ICE and FEMA are both under DHS. And DHS is the agency that decides whether or not a National emergency is declared, and under what circumstances. I pulled this from Fox News:

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, and fellow member Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., wrote a letter to DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff in February asking, in part, what defined an immigration "emergency.”

Thompson told FOXNews.com that he was unsatisfied with DHS's response, received in a May 23 letter. The letter defines, but does not limit, an immigration "emergency" to "humanitarian interventions, mass migrations, populations rapidly arriving in the United States, and other unforeseen situations." It adds that "in no event will any entity other than DHS declare an 'immigration emergency.'"

"An emergency is basically anything DHS deems an emergency — we think that’s too broad of an interpretation of an emergency and a contract that large should have more safeguards built in to protect all parties concerned," Thompson said, noting that he is also bothered that no other company came forward to bid on the project.

So there you go, an emergency is anything DHS decides it to be. So are these camps real? It would certainly seem so. Will they be used to round up the dissident masses, I guess if DHS decides it is an emergency. I suppose the truth is they are not hidden on abandoned Military basses, just right in front of us all under the oversight of ICE, FEMA, and DHS. Now don't you feel better?
