It all started with Eric Holder, the new Attorney General.
He stated that 90% of the guns used in Mexican drug cartel violence were smuggled into Mexico from the United States.
Eric Holder wants to ban all firearms. He has made no secret of it. He even stated the 2ed amendment would not get in his way.
From there it became Hillery Clinton's talking point when in Mexico, promising help with the drug cartels.
Then Diane Feinstein started using this quote in congress. She has the Scary Looking Gun Ban Bill she wants to get passed.
The problem is, Eric Holder left out a key piece of information in his original statement.
90% of TRACEABLE guns were found to come from the US.
10% of the guns confiscated are traceable. That means 90% of them are not. Most of the weapons used are fully automatic weapons, bought from China, Russia, and a host of other countries.
Fully Automatic weapons are already illegal here in the US. We have, however sold some from our military to the Mexican military. And the cartels have hired the military in many instances, to help them keep control.
So if there are traceable automatic weapons in Mexico that came from the US, our government is the one who sold them to Mexico. I know, facts always get in the way of agenda.
I wrote a note to Diane Feinstein about this distortion of the facts. I even forgot I did, it was oh so long ago. But today I got a response from her:
Thank you for letter regarding a comment I made at a Joint Hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs and the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control entitled, "Law Enforcement Responses to Mexican Drug Cartels" on March 17, 2009. I welcome the opportunity to clarify my remarks.
There have been a number of stories and statistics released on gun seizures in Mexico within the last year. In my opening statement at the Joint hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs and the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control, I noted the high percentage of seized guns that come from the United States. In this instance, I was referring to traced guns. While I understand your request to differentiate traced guns from those firearms that cannot be traced due to efforts to remove registration markings or limitations on tracing older firearms, I believe my point remains important. There is a problem with gun trafficking from the United States to Mexico and the Mexican Cartels. This is an issue that should be addressed.
According to Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Special Agent William Newell, between 2007 and 2008, Mexico submitted 11,000 guns to the ATF for tracing. Approximately 6,000 were successfully traced. According to William Hoover, the ATF's Director of Field Operations, of those, 90 percent (over 5,100) were found to have originated in the United States.
Again, thank you for sharing your concerns. I hope you will continue to keep me informed on matters of importance to you. Best regards.
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator
If I am reading this correctly, she is admitting to knowingly distorting the facts, to support her position that guns need to be banned.
Oh well, what is a little lie amongst friends, when it is for the greater good.
